Doris has reached out to ‘at risk’ families, in both professional and volunteer capacities, for over thirty years.
Doris’ professional career began as a job developer for the Career Guidance Project. She worked with over 300 non-profit agency sites to offer training and career exploration to more than 1000 disadvantaged ‘at risk’ high school students. She became the Coordinator of Volunteers for Tucson City Court… where she contributed to the development of the "Protection Assistance Services" program for the City of Tucson Prosecutor's Office. This program provided assistance to victims of domestic violence. She served as Director of Volunteers at Casa de los Niños Crisis Shelter. Later, as Program Coordinator at the UA College of Medicine, she created the “Arizona’s Child Abuse InfoCenter”, a web based information resource for professionals working with child abuse issues.
Doris and her husband have worked as volunteers hosting a Young Life Club for several years, hosting and teaching a “Good News Club” in a section-8 apartment complex with Child Evangelism Fellowship, and teaching pre-school Sunday School. Doris served as an abstinence education speaker for the Crisis Pregnancy Center in numerous Tucson area high schools. Doris also helped in an advisory capacity to set up the volunteer program for the Tucson Gospel Rescue Mission’s Women and Children’s Center. She has served as a board member for several non-profit agencies including Pima Community College Administration of Justice Program, Tucson Young Life Committee, AZ chapter of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, and as President of the Tucson Association of Volunteer Administrators.
When not involved in the non-profit sector, Doris held various sales positions including retail, home party, outside sales and sales training.
Doris has been married to her husband Dave for 46 years. They have four grown children and 20 grandchildren (to date)! Her hobbies include sewing, bargain hunting, travel and hanging out with her kids and grand kids.
