From the Editor:
One of the greatest “jobs” I have is that of being a parent. It is a huge responsibility and I take it very seriously.
I recently spoke to a group of people on the topic of motherhood, and I told them I don’t want to be my kids’ friend. That’s not my job. You see, our children need a parent to guide them, instruct them, correct them and encourage them. They might be able to get their kudos from school, the media or their peers, but they need it most from YOU! Friends will come and go as your child grows and changes, but you will always be their Dad or Mom.
Take time to talk to your kids, but just as important, take the time to listen to what they’re saying…or not saying. And if you need help, don’t be afraid to ask. From books to websites to counseling, there are a vast number of resources out there to help you to be the best parent you can be!
One great resource I want to encourage parents to look out for is the upcoming brochure from Christian Family Care Agency titled, “Bedtime Routines for Happy & Secure Kids (and Happy, Well-rested Parents, too!).” This brochure gives parents wonderful suggestions on how to establish an evening routine that makes bedtime manageable. We’ve printed excerpts from the brochure in the online issue of GNT, and I think you’ll find the entire brochure helpful and encouraging! The brochure will be available this fall from Christian Family Care Agency (www.cfcare.org).
And finally, I want to say a special “Happy Father’s Day” to my Dad, Arnie. My parents did their best to raise me in the way I should go, and even though I probably gave them a few headaches along the way, I think they did pretty great! My favorite saying growing up and to this day is “C.O.D.” – Call on Dad! He has always been there to help, love, encourage and pray…thank you, Dad!
