Keys For A Healthy Start To The New Year
Yes, we hear this every year… how to be healthier, how to lose weight,
how to keep New Year's resolutions.
It gets old, but hopefully these ideas will put a fresh light on the New
Year for you:
- Get adequate sleep. This gives a chance for renewal of the body and
to fight of illness.
- Drink adequate fluid (I harp on this one a lot!). About 2 liters a
day as a minimum. You can include decaf tea in the mix, if you are not
up to water when it's cool outside. Try some green tea!
- Include regular exercise. For some this is harder in cooler weather
and with darker mornings and evenings. Psych yourself up, and dress for
the temperature, and remember the good you are doing for yourself.
- Try to organize your schedule to make room for all your appointments
and so on, as well as time for snacks, meals, and water breaks.
- Experiment with new ways to prepare foods. Maybe more cook-ahead or
slow-cooker recipes would be fun. Keep healthful food easy to make for
you and your family.
- Try adding some supplements to your diet. For example, calcium is important
for bones (1000-2000 for women); a multivitamin or antioxidant formula
if you feel your diet may not be fully adequate.
- Keep some fun in your life. Don't try to be perfect-that includes food,
exercise, or commitments. Give yourself permission to be with people or
grab a coffee if you like.
Have a happy and healthy New Year!
