Get in Shape Now for a Valentine's Run

is the perfect time to start exercising and getting in shape, and it is often
easier to commit to an exercise plan if you have a goal in mind.
Make it your goal to run with your family in the "A Fine Valentine" race event on Saturday, Feb 9th at 8 a.m. located at the Main Gate at the University of Arizona (between Euclid and Tyndall; parking in nearby garages and on nearby streets).
"This is a fun, playful event," said Randy Accetta, the race director and president of the Southern Arizona Roadrunners (SAR) which has hosted this race for more than 10 years. "We expect more than 200 runners this year."
"A Fine Valentine" consists of three separate events: a 4 mile couple's relay, in which two team members each run approximately 2 miles; a 4 mile individual race; a 2 mile non-competitive walk/jog. The 2 mile walk/jog is designed to promote daily exercise, and Accetta recommends that you bring the whole family along.
In addition, the event will include a free children's race after the main races.
"My favorite thing this year is that we will use the football stadium ramps at the U of A," said Accetta, who has directed the race for six years. "We're going to start at U of A's main gate and then run up and down through the ramps."
Accetta said that his second favorite thing about the Valentine's race is the couple's relay. "Anyone fast or slow can run or walk it."
Awards will be given for the couple's relay and the 4 mile individual race. Couple's relay awards will be top-three overall, as well as age group awards in two categories: under-80 combined age and 80+ combined age. In the 4 mile race, individual awards will be given to the top finishers in each 10-year age group.
"We have fun prizes, like a jug of cheetos or cheese puffs for the first place winner," Accetta said. Race results will be posted the day of the race.
