Youth Volunteering This Winter
Join the Youth Volunteer Corps and have fun meeting like-minded friends and
doing cool service projects. YVC engages youth, ages 11- 18, in community
projects and activism. Call the Volunteer Center at 881-3300 for an application
packet and details of the cool opportunities, offered after school or on
weekends.
Asset Development
Low income families that use VITA's e-filing of tax returns can also receive
financial education on protecting and building their assets. Resource specialists
describe public benefits, run credit reports and suggest ways of obtaining
information about asset development. Resource specialists receive free training
but a background in financial literacy is preferred.
Business Arbitrators
Conduct hearings and offer binding or nonbinding resolutions to consumers
and business owners. An arbitration takes about four hours and must be done
during work hours. Strong communication skills and a professional demeanor
in emotionally charged situations are required. Training is given on the
Better Business Rules of Arbitration. Call 888-6161.
Information Techie
Maintain the website and computer system for an agency that supports pregnant
teens. 888-2881.
Children's Advocate
Offer friendship and security to an abused or neglected child. You will be
court-appointed to visit the child and meet with people influential in
the child's life, then report to the court about the status and best interests
of the child. A two year commitment is required. 740-5083.
Youth Wednesdays
Glean fruit in the neighborhood for refugees and map the area with GIS software,
learn about local food systems and the challenges of refugee communities,
and have a ton of fun. Wednesday afternoons at the Volunteer Center. Call

Apply Roof Coating
Arizona's Children Association, a nonprofit that promotes the well-being
of families, needs help with sweeping, power washing and applying white
roof coating to several buildings. Volunteers will work outdoors most of
the day and should be comfortable climbing a ladder, walking on roofs,
and using paint equipment. Call 622-7611 x 1341.
Movies or Music
Bring a movie, popcorn, soda and enthusiasm to elderly or disabled residents
in public housing. They're also eager to hear live instrumental or sung
music: classical, hymns or jazz. A great opportunity for amateur performers
or small school groups.
Tucson Envoy
Do you treasure Tucson? Do you want to share the wonderful things here with
70,000 annual guests? You'd enjoy a weekly four-hour shift in the Tucson
Visitor Center in downtown Tucson.
Dynamic Youth Leaders
Enthusiastic, communicative middle and high school students are invited to
serve as Board members and Officers at a children's museum. They'll make
decisions about outreach, special events, fundraising and development of
a strategic plan. Youth may also be nominated to sit on the adults' Board.

Health Education
Teach health and life skills, giving vulnerable people the information and
motivation to break free from poverty and abuse. Volunteers receive
detailed training and may qualify for academic credit or an internship. A
background in health is not necessary.
