Encouraging Words
When I attended U of A I went to the football games for a couple of reasons:
to see and be seen. My girlfriends and I would rat and poof our hair, slap
on make-up and prance into the games hoping some handsome college male would
see us and ask us out. I liked the crisp cold air, the marching band, our
school colors and especially our famous school fight song, "Bear Down
Arizona."
Those were the simple days. Life was fun! But, I wasn't good in sports. I
tried so hard to compete in athletic activities in high school and I was
OK in volleyball, but not great. I stunk in basketball, and none of us girls
ever wanted to work up enough of a sweat to have to take a shower after practice!
So I gave up on sports.
But when I got married and had my three girls I was in for a big surprise!
They all loved sports, like their dad. Whether it was softball, volleyball,
soccer or basketball, they were good at any sport - very good!
I had so much fun with them, though. At the games you could see me screaming
and cheering for them from the sidelines, even though I never understood
some of the technicalities and often yelled the wrong thing. I still get
confused about sidelines in soccer.
But I was there for my girls encouraging them to go for it because I knew
they loved it. Do you encourage those around you? The Bible is filled with
ways we can help each other. Look beyond yourself and find out what others
like.
Compliment them; make them feel good about themselves. Become their friend. When someone discovers you care, they may begin to want to know what you love .... and BINGO, you can give them an answer! For me it's simple...telling them about Jesus and the joy of living with Him here on earth and the greatest victory of all .... living with Him forever in heaven.
Love ya,
Kathy
