This month, I talked to several students who are the children of divorced parents. Divorce is something that not only affects the parents, but it also affects the kids.
Here’s what they had to say:

How has your parents’ divorce affected you?
Zoe: It really hasn’t, it was so long ago.
Kayla: It has affected me a lot! I have to go from house to house all the
time.
Daria: It’s been really hard because I have to switch from house
to house, but my step mom is nice!
Davis: It was really hard at first. I felt different because I didn’t
have “real” parents.
Megan: I don’t really know how it was before because I was so young,
but it definitely has been hard.
What are the advantages or disadvantages of having divorced parents?
Zoe: I get more Christmas presents... that’s good, but sometimes
when I go to my dad’s, I’ll want to do something with my mom,
but she will have something going on, so I have to stay with my dad...
I can never be with both at once.
Kayla: I get more Christmas presents! And I like having more family.
Daria: I like having two of everything... but I don’t get to see
them as much.
Davis: I like having two Christmases and two birthdays!
Megan: I don’t think that there are any.
What is your view on divorce?
Zoe: I think that it’s bad.
Kayla: When two people are married and don’t get along, then they
just give up on each other... I think that’s bad.
Daria: I don’t think that divorce is right, they should get to really
know each other before they get married, and if they do get divorced, then
they shouldn’t have gotten married in the first place.
Davis: I think that it is Biblically wrong, you should get to know each
other before you get married.
Megan: When I think of divorce it really makes me sad.
Do you feel closer to your parents since the divorce or further away?
Zoe: I really feel the same since my parents have gotten a divorce.
Kayla: I feel a lot closer to my mom and to my dad.
Daria: I feel closer to my mom, but a little further from my dad, because
I don’t get to see him as much.
Davis: I feel A LOT closer to my mom! But not as close to my dad.
Megan: I feel closer because I get one-on-one time with each of them!
What advice would you give to kids whose parents are going through separation or divorce?
Zoe: You should pray to God because He will really help you get through
it.
Kayla: Talk to your parents about what’s going on, they will help
you!
Daria: It’s always hard, but you should find someone that you can
trust and just tell everything to them, tell them all your feelings. It
really helps.
Davis: You should just stay strong! Just know that it will end up okay.
Megan: Just know that they both love you!
