Faith In Action  by Pastor Bob Sawvelle

Season of Restoration

I love spring in the desert. Flowers and cactus are blooming, mesquite and other trees have new leaves, the birds are singing and the fragrance of the desert is awesome. It all speaks to me of new beginnings and restoration. God controls the natural seasons, and He is the One who brings new beginnings into our lives.

I was reminded recently of the miracle of new beginnings. Someone shared with me how their daughter experienced a very difficult season of her life. She had attended college, graduated and started to work. During the process she began to drift away from God and became agnostic in her beliefs. She wanted nothing to do with the faith of her father.

During this season, she began to live a lifestyle that was destructive. After four years, she found herself in an abusive situation and charged with DUI while trying to escape more harm. She had hit the bottom and needed restoration. Shortly after, she reluctantly attended a worship service with her mother and experienced the grace and presence of God like never before. In that moment, she realized that Jesus was real, His love secure, and she found forgiveness and restoration in the heavenly Father’s embrace.

If you feel like your life is in need of restoration, spring is a reminder that God specializes in new beginnings. You can be restored to God when you realize that He loved you so much that He gave His son, Jesus, as the substitute for your sin. When we return to Him, admit our sin, and accept His free gift of forgiveness given through Christ, we too are restored and our lives begin to have hope once again!

To read an amazing story of restoration, read Luke 15:11-32. You can view this Scripture passage at www.biblegateway.com.
