"Do Miracles Really Happen?"
![]() |
The word following miracle in most dictionaries is mirage, but are miracles
only mirages?
Christianity teaches God's miracles are supernatural acts that happen in
the natural world, a violation of normal laws of nature by God. God, Creator
of the universe, can bend and manipulate any natural laws. Therefore, the
evidence of a miracle is the direct result of an event - deliverance from
danger, cure of illness, or provision. God can create miracles through people
- Moses parting the Red Sea or Peter raising Tabitha from the dead. Or God
can use nature to create miracles - fire from heaven burning Elijah’s
offering or an earthquake to rip the temple curtain in half.
We must also understand the purpose of miracles. Miracles not only demonstrate the power of God and His decision to supernaturally intervene, but miracles also have a Godly purpose, even if we do not know the purpose. God also has a purpose in not doing a miracle, which is difficult to understand when prayers go unanswered. God’s wisdom is often beyond human understanding, but He is always working out the best from His eternal perspective.
“’My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,’ says the Lord.” Isaiah 55:8
