From The Editor

“I don’t believe it’s gonna get better any time soon,” said my 89-year-old father, speaking of the economy. After he reminisced a while about growing up on a farm in North Dakota during the Great Depression and the hard times he experienced as a kid, he said, “Fuel prices keep climbing. So many houses foreclosing. Where is it all heading?”

My dad is not alone in his uncertainty about our nation’s financial system. According to the latest Gallup Poll, 79% of Americans hold negative views about the economy, while 14% hold mixed views and only 5% hold positive views.

Many local businesses are feeling the economic squeeze. My wife and I recently went to our favorite restaurant for dinner, and there was a card on the table that read something like this:

“If you enjoy coming to this restaurant for great tasting food, please visit us regularly during these summer months and difficult economic times when many restaurants have already closed and others are getting ready to. Your patronage will help us to continue offering high quality food for a long time to come.”

At a time when many businesses are experiencing tough times, we can be intentional about using local goods and services to help the Tucson economy. In fact, please shop or eat at the businesses, stores and restaurants represented in Good News Tucson Magazine. These establishments are committed to seeing this family-values magazine stay available as a resource for families, and we can say thank you by helping them stay in business and increase their sales.
