DO PASTORS NEED SEMINARY?

We know that God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things. Ordinary people start home bible studies, and it grows into a church! All over the world, God is using ordinary believers like you and me, to plant churches.

So why does a Pastor need seminary? Aren’t the Bible and the Holy Spirit sufficient? Yes and no. From the inception of Old Testament temple worship, God has established an order of priesthood. This priesthood required training and education. Jesus himself taught 12 students to minister the Word. Even Paul had attended the best Jewish theological seminary in his day. Unfortunately, attending seminary these days has become unaffordable. It shouldn’t be this way. Anyone with a call on their life should be able to attend seminary! Jesus didn’t charge. Just imagine what would happen if all over this country, ordinary men and women by the thousands were equipped and then released to make disciples and start churches by attending seminary for free! Maybe seminaries should look to a different model of instruction rather than a secular one based on universities. God will use anyone who is willing to advance His Kingdom. The question is, are we ready to change?
