WOMAN'S HEALTH
Information Overload: Take a Media Fast
There is too much information to take in sometimes! We are in a time in
history where there is more information available to us, and it comes to
us faster every day.
We have the opportunity to learn something new every minute from around the globe. Our media is so enticing because a lot of us want to know what is going on everywhere, the latest, up to date data all the time.
There is so much in the health arena alone. All the studies, research, latest
findings for every possible thingthat could go wrong and all the things
that we should do and take help us avoid every possible thing that could
go wrong. We have experts on every side touting that their theory or research
is the “WAY”. The information is so contradictory, it is getting
harder to find any that agree with each other. We could be taking hundreds
of supplements a day and still not cover everything.
This news often comes to us in a very fear-oriented format and we can easily get caught up in it. It is harder, sometimes, to maintain our inner sense of peace, joy and tranquility.
Sometimes we eat something that is not good for us and we feel ill afterwards. We also have to determine for ourselves whether the sources we are getting our information
from are helpful and “healthful”. The presentation of news can be inspirational or it can be given to us in a way that makes us feel powerless, fearful and sad. We have to learn to say “NO” to media that drains our energy and our hope, and seek out and support media that empowers us and informs us.
As we learn more and read more about health issues, we really need to get in touch with what resonates as true to us. We have to know our bodies, how we feel and our innate belief systems about health and healing.
Sometimes we take a fast from certain foods; maybe do a juice fast, to help us feel better from all the unhealthy things we eat.
It may be beneficial to take a “media fast” in which we stop taking in information, for a time, to give ourselves a rest. When we return to the task of taking in and processing information again, we can begin with a fresh mind. Taking a break can enable us to see how we are affected by what we hear and see, and to help us make conscious choices about the sources of information we allow into our lives.
