Kick-Off the Christmas Season
at the Holiday Extravaganza

Event to benefit Southern Arizona Community Diaper Bank

The cast of 94.9 MixFM's Good Clean Fun Morning Show will join local personalities for a Holiday Extravaganza on Saturday, December 1, beginning at 3 p.m. at the Rillito Downs on the Northwest side of Tucson.

The event will include a theatrical performance of the classic story A Christmas Carol.

It's crazy, it's fun, it has a Tucson-twist, and it has a purpose: diapers. This annual event has become one of the ways the Southern Arizona Community Diaper Bank is able to add to its vaults with this precious commodity.

"This event generally brings in around 150,000 diapers," said Kirsten Grabo, Executive Director of the organization. "While that sounds like a lot, it will only last about a month and a half."

In fact, the need in the Tucson-area is greater than most people realize. "We go through about two million diapers a year here in the Tucson area," Grabo added.

The bank works with other local organizations to provide diapers to those in need - from babies, to individuals with disabilities, to the elderly. Adult-size diapers make up about 20% of the bank's needed supply.

While the event has been held at Reid Park in years past, this year the event will be held at Rillito Downs.

"We're changing things this year," said Grabo. "It will be a great family fun day with holiday music, holiday shopping and of course the live radio play with MixFM."

Also planned is a special showing of the holiday movie, Jingle All the Way, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. The movie will be shown on a larger than life, 50 foot by 32 foot, outdoor movie screen from Arizona Venue, a Flagstaff-based company.

The 94.9 MixFM/KGUN 9 live radio show will broadcast at 5 p.m. with the movie following that. Musicians will also perform throughout the event. Admission to the event will cost you $10 or a package of diapers.

According to Grabo, diapers are needed in all sizes this time of year, but the sizes that are especially in demand are the larger size diapers (4,5,6) and pull-up-style diapers.

For more information on the event, please call the Diaper Bank at 325-1400 or visit their website at www.diaperbank.org. On the website you can also find year-round diaper drop-off location as well as specific size needs.
