Holiday Fitness Success

It's difficult enough to eat healthy and stick to a workout program even under the best of circumstances, and in the middle of the holiday season it can almost seem impossible.

If you have lots of parties, celebrations and eating scheduled through the New Year, take heart. Parties can be enjoyed and your stress about holiday weight gain reduced. Enjoy this special time of year without packing on the extra 2 to 5 pounds. It can be as simple as considering how you want to feel at the end of the day, and setting your intention to make the choices to achieve that end. Try it and you will begin 2008 without extra weight.

I remember my first Christmas 11 years ago, after losing 60 pounds. I decided I wanted to enjoy the blessings of the holiday season without any weight gain. So, I set my intention to maintain my regular routine throughout the entire holiday season. With that in mind, and on party days especially, I kept up with my exercise, and stayed as close to my normal eating plan as possible.

Yes, it gets hectic, and crazy schedules make it challenging. Keep the holidays in perspective and cut yourself some slack! Now is not the time to aim for perfection which can derail your best intentions any time of year. Focus instead on having a plan.

Skipping your workout and meals in order to make up for 'bad' eating is not a plan, and will set you up for low energy, hunger and poor food choices. Enjoy the special flavors of the season, in moderation of course.

Commit yourself to stick to a firm workout plan and food schedule, and avoid hanging out at the cheese tray (or whatever your weakness is!).

Make today the day you set your intentions and decide how you want to feel. Create a plan for success and stick to it, and begin 2008 looking good and feeling great!
