Randy Travis Ventures Outside Country Music and
Into ‘Outreach Cinema’ - Releasing The Wager Dec ‘07

We have all become familiar with Randy Travis and his music. With 22 number one hits, 6 number one albums, 5 Grammy’s, 6 CMA’s, 9 ACM’s, 10 AMA’s, 6 Dove Awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of fame, Randy has become a household name and a staple for most family CD collections.

Although his soft spoken style of song has captured our hearts in years past, we also know Randy to be an accomplished actor with credits including guest appearances on Matlock and feature performances in The Rainmaker and Frank and Jessie. Now, Randy has ventured deeper into the world of film, as a founder of Outreach Cinema, an exclusive direct-to-church film release program launched by Christian Film Studio Pure Flix Entertainment.

Michael Steel’s attempt at comforting a
young child is mistakenly reported
as child abuse in The Wager.

“Our vision is to help the church connect more deeply with people in their community through feature films,” said David A.R. White, a film producer, actor and one of the founding members of Outreach Cinema. “Many movie theatres have been reluctant to embrace movies with strong faith messages, an igniting factor for Pure Flix to develop this innovative platform.”

“America has more church seats than theatre seats, creating a great opportunity to share the redeeming message of the Gospel at churches in a safe environment,” said managing partner Byron Jones. Evidenced by blockbuster hits The Passion of the Christ and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, people want family and faith-based films.

On New Year’s Eve, Outreach Cinema will release The Wager, a major motion picture staring Randy Travis to churches exclusively. Boasting an impressive cast of characters including Candice Cameron Bure (Full House) and Nancy Stafford (Matlock), Jude Ciccolella (24) and Bronson Pinchot (Perfect Strangers), the film will open to public release in February.

The Wager is a modern day parable of Job, challenging lead character Michael Steel (Randy Travis) to remain faithful, as his world crumbles around him ten days prior to the biggest night of his life. Full of realistic situations, this film touches the viewer and challenges them to wonder, “what would I do?”
