WOMAN'S HEALTH

Don't Let the Joy of Christmas Pass You By!

By now the Christmas season has gotten underway and how are you doing?

Are you like some I have heard say "I hate Christmas! I eat too much, I drink too much, rush from store to store…" The fact that we are celebrating the birth of Christ hardly even registers on the radar screen. The world around us has become one of the greatest displays of materialism and the values of the consumer society.

Our consumer culture is very intentional about seeking to center our lives around its materialistic values and we need to be just as intentional in our focus on God's values in order to stand against these pressures.

Our homes are often like commercialized nativity scenes when Christmas finally arrives. Our smiles unsuccessfully mask the fatigue, the tension and the money worries. All of the preparations are perfect, and yet inside we are in a state of disarray. The joy of Christmas has passed us by.

The Christmas holidays and the days leading up to them overwhelm us. There is never enough time or energy for everything. In our frenzy to wrap, shop, decorate, bake, write cards and socialize, we often act as though Christmas depends on our efforts alone. Let's face it --- stress happens!

Where do you turn when the pressure builds? Your immune system can take a beating with all this carrying on!! Do you get enough sleep? Do you get headaches, stomach aches, back aches, colds, sore throats? Your health - mentally, emotionally and physically - can suffer some pretty hefty blows. Are you able to maintain your ability to stay strong and vital? I take care of sick people every day and pray for their health to return. I pray for all of us that we maintain our good health every day and I hope you will take my advice about this Christmas season.

How about let's give Christmas to God?

Let go and let God!! When we put God in charge of Christmas, we will experience a season of renewal, of joy, of contentment, of peace and of hope, not stress, anxiety, discouragement or fear. Give Christmas to God. Remember that saying?

NO GOD, NO PEACE ---- KNOW GOD, KNOW PEACE?

Putting God in charge is the greatest gift we can give to our families, especially at Christmas. Why not let go of the reins and place your life back into the hands of God who is the reason for the season?

Merry Christmas and Healthy New Year!
