Great Leadership Is Lead By Prayer

Recently a good friend, who also owns a business in the community, asked me how to train employees without holding their hands. It reminded me of an experience I had a few years ago.

I had asked my assistant to book a trip to NY for me. I gave her basic instructions for the trip and my credit card. Long story short, she did just about everything "wrong", as I would have it, and it was a terribly scheduled trip.

I was in my car when she called and told me what she had done. I got to the office and sat in my car, furious. I decided to pray about it because I was so angry I was afraid I would behave foolishly when I walked into the office.

Just then God did one of those "drop in my spirit" things. In a moment I knew that I was responsible for what my assistant had done. Even if I had told her exactly what to do, at the end of the day, I was the leader and everything she did, was my responsibility.

I knew she wasn't deliberately sabotaging my trip, she did her best. Although the temptation was to start scheduling my trips for myself, I knew what I really needed was to become a better trainer.

I could have skipped training her all-together and just took the job back, and hear this, God would NOT have been angry with me. I just would not have grown out of the experience, and neither would my assistant. Do you see how great prayer works?

We don't need to hold the hand of our employees, or those we may be responsible for, but we do need to lead the way. If you find yourself in this position, take a moment to pray and let God teach you, only then will you be equipped to lead the way for others!
