Biblical Living with Lisa Lloyd

Do You Know How To Relax?

Since the May issue is about Fun Get-A-Ways, I thought I'd seize the opportunity to make a confession.

I HAVE HAD A HARD TIME RELAXING!

After years of learning how to "wind up" building businesses, I found that it was not as natural to "wind down". One summer I went with my family to Disneyland. I remember standing in line and wondering if I had any emails…probably not what the mom feeding her children ice cream behind me was thinking. My husband reminded me that if I didn't learn to relax, I would miss enjoying the blessings God had given us. I knew he was right, but it is not like I had a switch I could just turn off.

So, I decided to petition God for help. I asked Him to show me how to be committed to my work, what I believe He created me for, and at the same time how to have peace when I wasn't working. Philippians 4:6-7 says, "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

I didn't see any immediate changes. What's more, it seemed like it got worse! Yet, in the few years that have passed since that time, I can honestly tell you, this is NOT a problem for me anymore. Instead, I have developed a greater capacity for transitioning between home and work.

What happened? I simply saw that I had a problem, asked God for help, and cooperated with Him as He began to work it out in me. Remember Philippians 4:6-7 - ask God for help and He will begin to bring the changes you need in your life!
