Youth On The Move By Keith Powell

Thrills and Skills

Jacob and Ashley Price are dedicated to helping students reach their potential. Jacob is a manager at a local Northwest Tucson Chain Restaurant and Ashley is a former model-turned full-time U of A student. She also works full-time at a cellular store. Jacob and Ashley have put together a fantastic trip for area students this summer. It's being billed as a "Leadership Lab." The trip is sponsored by "The Point" student ministry group of LifePoint Church.

Jacob and Ashley are newlyweds, also. Despite all the pressures of career, school, and personal needs, they find time to assist students. Each Wednesday night they lead a mid-week gathering and facilitate monthly activities for the group.

Jacob says that helping students comes naturally to him. Since both he and Ashley were part of a strong student group through high school and into college, they understand the benefit of having a peer group that is positive. Ashley says that student groups often have drama, but good leadership helps students learn from the conflicts of life and become better people. Jacob believes that having good social skills, decision-making skills, and leadership skills are some of the benefits of belonging to a regular student group.

On June 22-25, they invite students 7th grade - 12th grade to join them for a great time at Six Flags Magic Mountain. I've been asked to facilitate the "Leadership Lab." I believe this can be a fantastic ending to the school year, and great kick-start for the summer. It will be intense, fun, and challenging.

I often hear that students are the leaders of tomorrow. I believe students are leaders of the present. The Student Leadership Lab will begin with an overnight trip via passenger bus to Six Flags Magic Mountain. We'll play all day at the park and experience all the thrills we can stand. We'll return the next day for an abbreviated day of activity. Along the way, we'll study the book Developing the Leader Within You by Dr. John Maxwell.

The total cost for the trip is $150.00 plus the cost of meals. Seats are limited to the first 50 students to respond. Adult participants will undergo a thorough background check. Hotel accommodations will be modest (think Super 8 or Motel 6) and each room will have an adult supervisor.

E-mail me to sign up! Deadline is May 31.
