On This Mother's Day By Mindi Johnson
There's a saying that goes: "If Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy!" How is the mom in your life doing? Moms come in all forms, including birth moms, adoptive moms, single moms, step-moms, surrogate moms and grand-moms. As Mother's Day approaches, take time to share some happiness with the special mom in your life.
Mother's Day Card
A special card, purchased or homemade, lets mom know you're thinking of her.
Whether you're living in the same house or across the globe, write a note,
thanking her just for being your mom.
A Special Meal
Give mom
a break. Prepare a simple, special meal to give her a rest from cooking (see
the great recipes in Beth Hoover's column, Culinary Corner). Be sure to clean
up, too!
Help Around the House
Sometimes moms feel like we have to get the house picked up, the laundry done
and all the other household chores caught up before we can take time for
ourselves. So, lend a hand to help ease mom's
workload.
Get Outdoors
Get mom out of the house for some fresh air. May is a beautiful month in Southern
Arizona - take a walk, ride bikes, or plan a picnic.
While changes on one day a year may not get rid of all the stresses in your mom's life, it can be a way to let mom know how much you love and appreciate her. If you have a strained relationship with your mom, this is the perfect month to begin making steps toward healing and renewing that relationship. A simple phone call to check on your mom goes a long way to build bridges that may have been torn down.
And if you are a mom reading this, I want to remind you how valuable you truly are! You are the protector, the comforter, the cheer leader, the nurse; you are the mom! You may sometimes feel underappreciated and overworked, but your family just wouldn't operate the way it should without you.
So, Mom, be happy!
Happy Mother's Day!
