A relaxed form of America’s pastime exists in the Northwest section
of Tucson, between Oro Valley and Catalina. Pathway Sports, a ministry
of Pathway of Hope Church, is in its third season of bringing recreational
softball for men 16 and older to the area.
The Pathway Sports slow pitch men’s softball league will play their games on Sunday nights starting September 9, 2007. The cost is $45 per player and includes a team shirt and ten games. All games, including playoffs, will be played at Coronado Middle School located at the corner of Wilds and Oracle between the times of 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Activities are also planned for children 5th grade and under.
“We’re excited about offering a men’s softball league in the Northwest,” said League Director Jeff Garcia. “There are no opportunities for men to play in Oro Valley or Catalina, so we’re happy to fulfill a need.”
Sign-ups for individual players are taking place right now. In prior years, the cost had been lower but this year Pathway Sports and Recreation is bringing in an ASA certified umpire to call the games. “The League is taking a step in the right direction towards bringing credibility and consistency in a competitive market for recreation here in the Tucson area,” said Garcia.
Pathway Sports will also be organizing quarterly softball tournaments and a coed league. In addition, Pathway Sports has hosted a three-on-three basketball tournament, a golf tournament, and a bowling league. Plans are underway to provide a full assortment of sports and recreational opportunities in Northwest Tucson.

“As long as I can play and enjoy it, I will be out there,” said Paul Kelly, a player over 50 who has played with Pathway Sports since its first season. So come on out, sign up and play ball!
