Foreign Object Debris

I used to be in the Navy in Aviation Maintenance Administration. We had a term we used frequently called FOD (foreign object debris), and had a weekly walk-down of the runway to remove it. It is any small thing like a pebble or a bird. It is very dangerous because FOD can fly into a plane's engine and bring it down.

I think life is full of FOD, too. It can look like the smallest amount of wrong thinking. Things like insecurity, resentment, or even fear are FOD in our minds that can bring us down.

I recently saw a movie called "Peaceful Warrior". In it, a young man is taught the art of "taking out the trash" as they put it. The lesson is that our mind can get so full of wrong thinking it brings our whole life into captivity. So, the wise man teaches his student to "take out the trash" and we watch the powerful changes that occur when he applies it to his life.

Airports do regular maintenance including inspecting and sweeping runways down to assure the safety of the aircraft and its passengers. In the same way, we should "walk-down" our thoughts to be sure there is no FOD that gives the enemy a foothold (Eph. 4:27). Anything that does not line up with the God's precious Truth is FOD and it MUST be thrown away!

1Peter 5:8 says, "Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour." Be awake and alert at all times because FOD could fly into your mind quicker then you can dodge it if you're not paying attention. As the old saying goes; "Think about what you are thinking about" and it will change your life!
