With
our family, church, and school commitments; and with our ever-growing to-do
lists, the focused time we are able to spend with our children is so important.
Much more is "caught" by our children than is taught. In order for them to catch our values, they need to be able to observe us living our values.
Whether you are a grandparent, relative, Mom, or Dad, there are precious teachable moments that happen in our children's lives. These projects will take less than an hour to complete, use minimal supplies, and be a way to share some teachable moments.
The kids are back to school. We are looking forward to fall and cooler temperatures soon. These easy crafts can brighten a home or give a little extra encouragement to a friend.
Ribbon-covered napkin rings
What you need:
- 8-inch strip of 2" wide wire-edged ribbon
- Wooden napkin ring 1 ½" wide
- Hot glue gun (parental supervision)
- Popsicle stick
- Dried flowers or silk leaves (optional)
1. Squeeze a small amount of hot glue across the width of the napkin ring. Using the Popsicle stick so you don't burn your fingers, take one end of the ribbon and press it carefully into the hot glue. Hold it in place briefly until secure. Put glue around the rest of the ring and secure the ribbon to it the same way.
2. Squeeze a thin line of hot glue about ¼" long just inside the edge of the napkin ring. Use the Popsicle stick to wrap the edge of the ribbon around the inside of the napkin ring where you squeezed the line of hot glue and hold it in place until secure.
3. Repeat this on the other side of the napkin ring.
4. Can attach dried flowers or leaves for decoration.
Decorative (and encouraging) Bath Salts
(great to use as gifts, too!)
What you need:
- Glass or plastic decorative bottle (wide-mouth is best) or jar with lid
- Box Rock salt
- ¼ cup Vegetable oil
- Food coloring
- Dried flowers
- Hot Glue Gun
- Decorative Ribbon
- Large Mixing Bowl
- Large Spoon
- (Optional - scented oil)
1. Pour rock salt into the bowl.
2. Add a few drops of food coloring and mix well until distributed throughout the salt 3. Add the vegetable oil and mix thoroughly. Optional - add few drops of scented oil.
4. Pour the salts into clean, dry bottles or jars and seal tightly.
5. Use glue gun to decorate jar with flowers and ribbon, add these instructions and possibly an encouraging verse:
"Use 1 cup of crystals in a warm bath."
