Volunteers In Service To America
VISTA members will be placed in local schools to develop a sustainable volunteer program with a strong literacy component to meet the needs of low-income elementary children. The VISTA will develop programs for recruitment, interviewing, training and recognition, and a system for data collection to demonstrate that tutoring has a positive academic impact. Seamstress for Costumes
Use your sewing machine to repair, replace or design child-sized career-themed costumes at a children's museum.

Ambassadors for Volunteerism
Work morning shifts at the front desk of the Volunteer Center. Greet and chat with visitors or callers, then match them to volunteer positions on an online system. If you have computer skills we'll find challenging projects; everyone will be trained on the online volunteer system. A smile and excellent phone skills are essential.

Light Maintenance
Exterior and interior painting, trimming bushes and plants, and other light maintenance will spruce up the Adult Loss of Hearing building.

CPR Certified for Life
Become a nationally certified Red Cross First Aid and CPR Instructor for adults, children and infants. Previous teaching experience required; 35 hours of training with materials fee (scholarships available). You'll need to teach four classes per year.

Make Signs
Produce directional signs for an outdoor museum. Materials include particle board, paint and vinyl letters. Manual precision and carpentry skills are required.

Feed the Families of Sick Children
Cook food for families who have taken a break from the hospital, usually about 30 people. Volunteers provide the food and preparation; Ronald McDonald House provides cooking utensils and kitchens. Call for information and to schedule a date.

Donations Assistant
Sort and organize clothing donations, and forward them to women and children who have fled abusive or violent situations. The cause is serious but the work is fun.

Adventures in service for Americans over 55
Mentor a K - 3 student in select local schools. Share your life experiences and learn from your student as you solve serious social problems by improving literacy. Volunteers serving 12 - 15 hours per week are eligible for a small stipend to cover expenses. Excellent training and peer support. Call 881-3300, ext. 107.

Relay for Life
Plan and support an overnight team event that honors cancer survivors and raises funds for cancer research, education and advocacy. Apache Junction area.

Support Crime Victims
Sharpen your office skills while helping crime victims. Write a newsletter, mail information to victims, update files, call victims, or do data entry.

Health Care Interviewer
Visit at home with seniors and disabled or homebound folks. Interview them to evaluate their health care needs and eligibility for services. You'll be the "eyes" and "ears" for a faith-based caregiver program.

Tram Driver
Scoot around in a tram while delivering patients to VA hospital locations. Patients may have mental and physical disabilities and will appreciate your assistance.
